Cell C Sharks fans will be thrilled to see the return of a familiar and much-loved face, Pat Lambie, although this time his presence will be on the side of the field as a kicking consultant. He now joins The Sharks on a one-year contract as a Tactical and Technical Kicking Consultant and will work with players across all of our professional teams on this basis.
The former Cell C Sharks flyhalf who dazzled with his natural ability and captured the hearts of local as well as Springbok fans with his temperament and never-say-die attitude returns to the team where his professional career started.
After leaving Michaelhouse, the SA Schools sports star came to The Sharks, immediately made his presence felt at Under 19 level before making his senior debut in 2009, the first of almost 100 caps for the union.
Lambie left the Cell C Sharks almost two years ago – in September 2017 – to pursue his career overseas, signing for French club Racing 92. But he was to announce his retirement from all rugby in January this year following a series of unfortunate injuries, taking medical advice to stop playing.
He had represented the Springboks in 56 Test matches by the time he sadly made the announcement that was retiring.
As a player, Pat was highly-respected by his team-mates and fans alike and will no doubt add huge value to the role as a former player that the current players will look up to. As a role-model, he will also provide a mentoring role, passing on the maturity he showed as a player to those who now follow in his footsteps.
Although this is his first foray into coaching, it is evident that he can make an immense and positive contribution to Sharks and South African rugby. The Cell C Sharks are thrilled and proud to welcome Pat back to JONSSON KINGS PARK knowing that he will make a hugely valuable impact on the players and, by extension, the franchise.
