COACH EDUCATION PROCESS
1. Any person wanting to coach in South Africa, MUST become Boksmart Accredited! Should they not have this accreditation, they will NOT be allowed to coach anywhere until such accreditation has been completed.

2. The next step is to complete the 2-day (in some instances 1 full day) World Rugby Level 1 course. Cost is R650 per coach or R500 if you are a member of the coaching association.
This course carries an Attendance Certificate only, but is compulsory to complete before attempting the Level 2 course.
You may do either the Boksmart or Level 1 first.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
BOKSMART
Each coach will be issued with a Boksmart card with his number on it. As there is a backlog with the issuing of these cards, please note that you can use your ID. Number to confirm you are Boksmart accredited should a referee official request your card. For a player to be signed off to play outside of his age group, the ruling is that ONLY a coach who has a World Rugby (IRB) Level 2 accreditation can sign him/her off. The coach MUST be in possesion of his Level 2 certificate for this process to be approved by Archie Sehlako. The coach must also be in possession of a VALID BOKSMART accreditation. Coaches should contact Archie Sehlako to track their Boksmart card.
World Rugby Courses
Certification will be issued to each coach via link from World Rugby within 6 months of completion of the course. We request that coaches be patient with the issuing of certificates as World Rugby cater for coaches all over the world and therefore there are sometimes delays in the process. REMEMBER: This is an International accreditation. We strongly advised all coaches to register online with a private email address as if you move from one school/club to another, your email address will change and this will create further delays in your receiving certificates and updated information from World Rugby. Coaches can also check on www.passport.worldrugby.org/certificates for their certificates.
All coaches attending the World Rugby Level 3 must be in possession of a World Rugby Level 2 accreditation and appropriate experience (this is a directive from World Rugby/SARU) Contact Donald Ngwenya on donald@thesharks.co.za with your Coaching CV. By April 2016 ALL coaches in South Africa MUST have a valid Coaching Licence World Rugby Qualification or they will not be allowed to coach (as per Boksmart Ruling). This is in the final stages of being legislated by government. Total compliance by all parties concerned is expected. SARU have also introduced an Administrators Course. This course carries an NQF Level 5 qualification.

Workshops on various topics, e.g. Lineout, Scrum, Breakdown Management, Defence, Attack, etc. will also be conducted over the year. Confirmation of these, dates and costs will be advertised in 2024 as well. This is for anyone who has an interest in rugby coaching but has no knowledge of the game.
