At only 20 years of age, Gumede is very much still a work in progress, yet the big flank forward – he is 1.90m tall and weighs 107kg – is a dynamic ball carrier and a most exciting future prospect.
Another Junior Springbok representative from 2019, who also gained back-to-back SA Schools selection (2017-18), Gumede hails from Zululand, where he attended Umfolozi Primary and Nuwe Republiek in Vryheid, before heading to Durban where he completed his high school career at DHS and also represented Durban Collegians at junior club rugby level.
