In what can be best described as a stop-start club rugby season at long last the clubs return to do battle and hopefully conclude what has been a most frustrating club rugby season in living memory due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Indeed the game as a whole has been badly affected over these last two years.
College Rovers the current holders of the Fidelity Services Moor Cup, last played for in 2019, will face Varsity College who beat them in the opening round of the Flya Competition earlier in the year. Needless to say, Dave Clarks charges will want to have a repeat result over the perennial Premier Division champions, especially with home ground advantage at Riverside.
In the other Premier Division game, SA Home Loans Durban Collegians take on their visitors from Zululand, the tough men from Richards Bay, on KP 10. It isn’t going to be easy to predict who will take the honours this year and with the Hollywoodbets Murray Cup scheduled to be drawn on 18 October, we have some great club rugby to look forward to over the next month or two.
The First Division fixtures resume as well with the high riding Westville Old Boys hosting Ballito Dolphins and Hillcrest at home to Drakensberg. In the other two games, Jaguars entertain UKZN Durban and the Maritzburg Rugby Club travel to Port Shepstone to face South Coast Warriors.
In the only Under 20 Frank Norris Cup game Durban Collegians travel to the Capital to face UKZN Pietermaritzburg.
