OPTIMUM WEDNESDAY CLUB RUGBY COLUMN

Synergy Westville Old Boys RFC,  in their debut Premier Division season, remain the only unbeaten side in the league with a four point  cushion at the top of the log over the perennial club champions College Rovers after their 26-14 victory over Crusaders 

Westville picked up a bonus point win scoring four tries to two in an enthralling and entertaining game on their home grounds at Jimmy Bellows Park with 

their tries coming from Arton Lawson, Josh Moon, Oliver Carmody and Gav Scott who also added three conversions 

Crusaders replied with two touchdowns one of which was a penalty try and two conversions 

College Rovers got the better of Varsity College beating the Durban North outfit at their Riverside Headquarters scoring two tries to one in their 23-7 victory with Charles Mayeza crossing for the. two touchdowns. Ruben van Blerk and Inny Radeba shared the kicks. 

All in all it was a good day at the office for Rovers with their three wins over Varsity College. 

In the other games Richards Bay beat Amanzimtoti at Hutcheson Park in Toti 34-0 and UKZN Pietermaritzburg beat UKZN Durban 38-3 leaving them and Toti holding the bottom of the log up

This weekend sees the return of Durban Collegians to action who will host Westville Old Boys RFC while Crusaders entertain Richards Bay and Varsity College travel to the Capital to face UKZN Pietermaritzburg with UKZN Durban at home to Amanzimtoti at Howard College. It is the turn for Rovers to have a bye before meeting Crusaders the following week.
