Marnus Potgieter came through one of South African rugby's great nurseries, Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool in Pretoria, representing the Blue Bulls at centre at the 2017 Craven Week before starting at outside centre for the Junior Springboks at the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championship.
He debuted for the Blue Bulls in the 2020 Currie Cup and was part of the squad that lifted the 2020/21 Currie Cup title, before moving to Durban in June 2021. His Sharks introduction was emphatic - a brace of tries against the Ospreys in his first URC outing in October 2021 - and he became a fixture in the 2022/23 season with 16 appearances and five tries across the URC and Champions Cup, including a hat-trick against Bordeaux at Kings Park.
Now 27 and among the senior heads in the Currie Cup group, Potgieter started at No 13 in the Sharks XV's 2026 opener, bringing title-winning experience and back-three versatility to a youthful squad.
