The Cell C Sharks are excited to unveil our brand new Cell C Sharks jersey to be worn in the upcoming 2022/23 Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaign.
The jersey, launched today, is for our fans designed by a fan.
In 2021, the Cell C Sharks ran a competition in which our fans were invited to submit their designs for our playing jerseys. Lee James Retief, a South African who now resides in the UK, delivered the winning design, which has been unveiled today.
The hastag associated with the new jersey design #FabricOfOurDNA is reflective of the passion our supporters show towards the Cell C Sharks brand, as well as the esteem in which we hold our fans who form the backbone of our team.
We are a team because of our fans, and by holding a competition that invites our fans to take an active role in supporting the team, we give power back to our many supporters who can now feel an even greater affinity towards the team they love.
The Cell C Sharks look forward to running out onto the field against Zebre Parma in Italy a little over two weeks’ time in their opening VURC match on Friday 23 September, proudly wearing our fan-inspired jerseys.
About the jersey:
The designer has been a staunch Sharks supporter his whole life and grew up in Durban, enjoying the pre match braais and electric atmosphere around the stadium, then watching the team play their hearts out on the field. He has never forgotten these memories and the friends he made. He wanted the emotions of solidarity and sense of community evident in the jersey design. Each tooth represents our fans, the ferocious Sharks supporters, from all around the globe. Razor sharp in attack and united in defence.
