A product of Oakdale Landbouskool, the famed agricultural school forward factory in the Southern Cape, Dian Heunis was signed by the Sharks straight out of school as one of their headline schoolboy recruits. His scrummaging quality was recognised nationally when he was selected for South Africa U20 at the 2023 World Rugby U20 Championship, starting at tighthead against Argentina and in the semifinal against Ireland.
Heunis has been contracted in Durban since 2024, developing through the Sharks academy and Sharks XV structures. He was named in the Sharks' 2025 Currie Cup squad alongside a crop of Junior Springboks and featured in matchday squads through the campaign, with the club's team release against the Blue Bulls in July 2025 flagging his senior debut. He has since been part of the Sharks' wider URC squad picture.
A powerfully built set-piece specialist at 1.89 m and 120 kg, Heunis provides genuine tighthead depth for the 2026/27 Currie Cup campaign.
