Juan Loots came through one of South African schoolboy rugby's great production lines at Paarl Boys' High, where he was a 1st XV regular at scrumhalf - and occasionally flyhalf - and represented Western Province at Craven Week level, having earlier captained the DHL WP U13 Craven Week team.
Recruited into the Sharks academy, Loots was named in SA Rugby's first national U19 Academy intake in October 2024, one of the elite young halfbacks identified in the country. He has worn the No 9 jersey for the Hollywoodbets Sharks U21s, was included in the Sharks' 2025 Currie Cup squad, and in August 2026 was named on the Sharks XV bench for the Currie Cup clash with the Stormers XXIII in Cape Town.
A composed distributor with a strong kicking and tactical game bred in Paarl, Loots stands on the verge of his senior breakthrough in the 2026/27 season.
