Luan Giliomee's rugby journey began in Ceres at Charlie Hofmeyr High School, where he captained the side to an unbeaten 2024 season. That year he starred for Boland at the U18 Craven Week and earned SA Schools A selection at flyhalf, having already won bronze with the SA U18 Sevens side at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.
Signed by the Sharks in early 2025, Giliomee helped the Sharks U21s to the national title before a loan spell with the Blitzboks, where he scored his first try against Spain in Perth. He made his senior Hollywoodbets Sharks debut against Munster at Kings Park in March 2026, scoring a try from fullback in a 45-0 win. "Gilly is a special kid," said coach JP Pietersen. "He belongs on that field."
A genuine utility who can play scrumhalf, flyhalf and fullback, Giliomee went on to represent SA A against Zimbabwe and the Junior Springboks at the 2026 U20 Championship in Georgia, as well as turning out for the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV in the Currie Cup. He was named at fullback for the Sharks' URC opener against the Ospreys in September 2026.
