Ma'a Allan Nonu was born in Wellington, New Zealand, on 21 May 1982. He attended Strathmore Park Primary School and Rongotai College, played club rugby for Oriental Rongotai, and progressed through Wellington Secondary Schools and Wellington Under-19 sides before making his provincial debut for Wellington in the 2002 NPC.
Regarded as one of the finest inside centres the game has produced, Nonu earned 103 All Blacks caps between 2003 and 2015 and won the Rugby World Cup in 2011 and 2015. In Super Rugby he represented the Hurricanes, Blues and Highlanders, before spells with the Black Rams in Japan, Toulon in the Top 14 and MLR's San Diego Legion, whom he captained in 2022. Returning to Toulon in 2025, he became the oldest player - and oldest try scorer - in Top 14 history.
Nonu joined the Hollywoodbets Sharks in July 2026 on a high-performance mentorship programme, working alongside JP Pietersen's coaching staff to instil world-class standards in the club's next generation, while remaining available for selection.
