An East London native, Murray Koster was educated at St Andrew's College in Grahamstown, where his Craven Week performances earned him a call-up to the Eastern Province Elephants' Country Districts team in 2017. He joined the Sharks youth system in 2018, winning the U19 Provincial Championship that year, and was invited to a Junior Springbok selection camp in 2019.
Koster made his professional Sharks debut in 2021 against the Griquas in the Preparation Series, and later that year started at centre against the touring British & Irish Lions. He went on to feature in the URC and Currie Cup - captaining the Sharks' Currie Cup side in 2023 - before joining Japan's Hino Red Dolphins ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Now back in Durban after two seasons in League One, the physical midfielder returns for 2026/27 with added experience, ready to bolster the Sharks' centre resources and push for a URC starting berth.
