Phiko Sobahle is proof that the road to top-flight rugby isn't always a straight line. A late bloomer by professional standards, the rangy right wing worked his way through the domestic ranks - with database records showing spells with the Natal Sharks and the Pumas - before seizing his moment in Black and White.
The 2025 Currie Cup was his breakout stage: the twinkle-toed speedster spearheaded the Sharks XV's first win of the campaign against Western Province at Kings Park, scoring a try and making ten carries. That form earned a senior call-up, and he started on debut in the URC against the Dragons in October 2025 before crossing for a try against Clermont in the Champions Cup in January 2026.
Now an established squad wing competing alongside Springbok company in Durban's back three, Sobahle heads into 2026/27 with genuine momentum behind him.
