The Carling Currie Cup is South Africa's premier domestic rugby competition, contested by eight provincial teams playing for the oldest provincial rugby trophy in the world — first awarded in 1892, with the earliest matches played in 1889.
The 2026 field is made up of the four South African URC franchises — the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV, Vodacom Bulls, Fidelity ADT Lions and DHL Stormers XXIII — joined by the top four finishers from the SA Cup: the Toyota Cheetahs, Suzuki Griquas, Airlink Pumas and Sanlam Boland Kavaliers. Teams play a single round-robin, with the top four advancing to semi-finals and a final.
