Albie Bester made his name at rugby powerhouse Boland Landbou before being snapped up by the Hollywoodbets Sharks, with his signing announced in late 2023. The hard-running midfielder progressed rapidly through the national age-group ranks, earning selection for the Junior Springboks in 2025.
That year proved a landmark one: Bester started at inside centre throughout South Africa's triumphant World Rugby U20 Championship campaign in Italy, scoring in the semi-final against Argentina and starting the final victory over New Zealand as the Junior Boks were crowned world champions. He returned home to make his senior Sharks debut in the 2025 Carling Currie Cup, scoring a try against the Boland Cavaliers in Pietermaritzburg, and has remained in the Currie Cup matchday mix in 2026.
A physical, direct No 12 with world-champion pedigree, the 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting midfield prospects in the Sharks system.
