Esethu Mnebelele hails from Fochville and moved to King Edward VII School in Johannesburg in Grade 8, where he developed into one of the country's leading schoolboy forwards. The powerful hooker captained his side at Craven Week and led the SA Schools team in 2024.
Mnebelele was part of the Junior Springbok squad that won the 2025 title in Italy, and in 2026 was named captain for the Junior World Championship in Georgia, leading South Africa to back-to-back titles with a 16-5 win over France in the final. His rise caught the eye of Rassie Erasmus, with an invitation to join the Springboks in Ireland at the end of 2025 cut short by a knee injury.
Originally signed by the Bulls out of school, Mnebelele turned down a contract extension in Pretoria and chose Durban, with the Hollywoodbets Sharks beating off interest from the Bulls and the Stormers. He was named on the bench for his first senior club appearance in the Sharks' URC opener against the Ospreys in September 2026.
