Phatu Ganyane's rugby journey began at Glenwood High School in Durban. A product of the Sharks academy, he represented the Sharks at Under-18 Craven Week before progressing through the Under-21 ranks. His impressive performances also earned him selection for the South Africa Under-18 development squad and later the South Africa Under-20 team, highlighting his potential from an early age.
Ganyane made his senior Currie Cup debut for the Sharks in 2024 and later made his debut for the Sharks in the EPCR Challenge Cup. Playing as a powerful prop, he has continued to establish himself within the Sharks squad, contributing across the United Rugby Championship, Currie Cup and European competitions.
His rapid rise was recognised when he was named the Sharks' Breakthrough Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season, reflecting his dedication and outstanding performances. As he continues to gain experience at the highest level, Ganyane is well positioned to become an important figure for both the Sharks and South African rugby in the years ahead.
