FIDELITY SERVICES CLUB RUGBY

The opening round of the 2021 Fidelity Services Premier Division for the priceless Moor Cup and the First Division produced some high scoring results. Understandably there were a few disappointed coaches and players but with most of the clubs fielding new look sides it was bound have a negative effect until they all find their feet.

SA Home Loans Durban Collegians ran riot in beating Amanzimtoti 82-0 on their home grounds.

Clearly the South Coast Terriers weren’t nearly prepared for their opening round game as they may have thought, which isn’t surprising considering the clubs have been out of action for just over a year due to the pandemic.

Across the way Collegians neighbors, College Rovers, had the better of UKZN Pietermaritzburg with a comfortable 59-14 win with their speedy wing Tythan Adams leading the seven try onslaught with two touchdowns after a slow first half start.

Their other tries came from skipper prop Jarrett Crouch, hooker Ntuthuko Mthembu, flank Sibulele Nanto, no 8 Mesuli Mncwango and utility forward coming off the bench Thabiso Mdletshe with fullback Ruben van Blerk doing the rest with his boot.

Across the Umgeni River at Ranleigh Crescent Durban North, home side Vox Crusaders beat Varsity College 23-5 in the only truly contested game that saw the home side outscore their neighbors three tries to one with their tries going to Shandon Carter, Nikolai Klewinghaus and Gopolang Molefe. Scrumhalf Josh Fourie was successful with two penalties and a conversion.

In the Frist Division Westville Old Boys had a rampant runaway victory hammering Jaguars 119-0 and FNB UKZN Durban beat Ballito Dolphins 40-8 , while the game between Hillcrest and Drakensberg was postponed and will be played in July.

In the Under 20 ‘A’ Frank Norris Cup games College Rovers beat UKZN Pietermaritzburg 43-5, Durban Collegians had the better of UKZN Durban winning 31-12 and Varsity College had a good away win beating Crusaders  34-12.
