Born and bred locally, Fez Mbatha is originally from Esikhawini township outside Empangeni, was introduced to rugby at Richardia Primary and his game really took off at Maritzburg College.
Having represented Cell C Sharks Schools two years in a row (2016-17), Mbatha was South Africa’s frontline hooker at last year’s World Rugby U20 Championship, but had already made his Super Rugby debut for the Cell C Sharks before that at only 19 years of age. He currently has a tally of four Super Rugby caps to his name.
