When the 29-year-old arrived in Durban just over a year ago, it was noted that he brings a wealth of experience to the Cell C Sharks, having represented the Cheetahs at both Super Rugby and Pro14 level.
Venter not only added value in terms of experience, but also provided invaluable leadership, even standing in as Cell C Sharks’ skipper on occasion over the past few months.
Born in the Free State town of Sannieshof, this hard-grafting loosie attended the famous Grey College in Bloemfontein, like his Springbok uncle, the late Ruben Kruger. He represented the Free State Cheetahs at all age-group levels and also enjoyed a stint with Toshiba Brave Lupus in Japan.
