Voted WP U19 Forward of the Year in 2015, Kumbirai went on to make 36 senior provincial appearances for Western Province and in 2019 also earned a solitary Super Rugby cap for the Stormers.
Michael Kumbirai was born in Pretoria 25 years ago and educated at St Alban’s College, but studied economics and finance at UCT, where he played for Ikeys and WP.
A welcome addition to the Cell C Sharks front row last year, the combination of Kumbirai’s Zimbabwean heritage and tighthead talent should see him strive to attain the same heights as an icon like ‘The Beast’, Tendai Mtawarira.
